Sep 23, 2014 by Joyce0 Comment Currently, Missouri law, due to a Supreme Court ruling, protects sexual predators from having previous acts of sexual violence against minors disclosed in court. We are the only state in the union with strict evidence rules against prior bad act evidence being revealed. Amendment 2 would fix the loophole and allow juries to know about previous acts of sexual violence with minors perpetrated by defendants. Judges would rule on whether to allow the evidence to be admitted. This evidence is not prohibited by the U.S. Constitution, and in fact, is specifically allowed under the Federal Rules of Evidence.
Amendment 2 has broad bipartisan support. It passed the in the House by votes of 130-23 and in the Senate by votes of 30-2. This amendment has the support of law enforcement and child advocacy centers. It has been endorsed by the Missouri Prosecutors, Police Chiefs and Sheriffs Associations, as well as Missouri Chamber of Commerce. The Northwest Missouri Children’s Advocacy Center has also endorsed this amendment along with several other advocacy centers.

The given circumstances of why we were at the center were not pleasant, but everyone involved made it easier to deal with those issues. This center is a great place and we are thankful to have such a healing place for our children to go.
