Julie was 5 years old when her father started sexually abusing her every week-end when she went to his house. Julie was scared and told him it hurt; he told her to hold still and it wouldn’t hurt. When Julie was 10 years old she finally got the courage to tell someone about the abuse and was brought to the Children’s Advocacy Center for a forensic interview and counseling. When Julie began counseling she was having nightmares, fears, headaches and stomach aches. She was worried that she might have AIDS and was extremely angry.
Cody was 6 years old when his mother’s boyfriend killed his little brother. Cody described how the man beat them, handcuffed them and stuck their heads in the toilet. He was very sad and scared when he began counseling at the Children’s Advocacy Center.
These are just 2 of the more than 600 sexually and physically abused children that we have seen for counseling in the last four years. Our professional counselors’ help these children understand what has happened to them and help them deal with the trauma. They will see the child as often and as long as is necessary. Like all of our services, this counseling is free to the parents.
You can help us continue to help these innocent children by making a donation to the Advocacy Center. While you are helping children, you will also receive a tax credit from the state of Missouri. There is a special tax credit available for Child Advocacy Centers that gives the donor a 50% credit of their donation. As the end of the year approaches I want to give you this opportunity to save money on your taxes while helping us. If you have any questions please call Joyce at 816-232-1744.
Thank you for your consideration of this request,
Joyce Estes, Executive Director
