Thanks to our local reporter, Alonzo Weston, for coming out to visit with us about our upcoming event, An Evening with Marilyn Van Derbur. The event is set for October 7, 2016 at the historic Missouri Theater here in St. Joseph.
Marilyn is a former Miss America who will share with us her journey through 13 years of trauma, suffering sexual abuse at the hands of her father from age 5 through age 18. She will further share how the abuse affected her life for years afterward, both physically and mentally. She will discuss how this kind of abuse can cause problems in marriage, in parenting, and in all aspects of life. Finally, she will tell us how she was able to work through it to become the person she is today. Ultimately, Marilyn brings a message of hope to survivors of abuse that life can be good, it can be productive and eventually it can be happy.
Tickets for this event are available at our office at 1807 North Woodbine Road, or by calling us at 816-232-1744 – or by emailing Melissa at firstname.lastname@example.org. They are $50 for a VIP ticket, which includes early admission for a meet-and-greet with Marilyn, hors d’oeuvres and VIP seating in the theater; $35 for general admission and $20 for students.
